Once again this morning he left food in the bowl. About 1/3 of his dry food. So I replaced that with canned and added green beans. He ate but not with his usual gusto. Gosh is it his teeth? from the tumor? Or the lack of smell/taste? I'm cooking chicken breasts tonight & getting more of the canned food he seems to like. He dragged me in to the water at the park last night He knows the exact path to the stream and this is where he takes us every time. Still. I'm thankful for that.

If the tumor is putting pressure on his upper jaw or has a bit behind his teeth, those teeth may be less sensitive with softer food than kibble. Ditto if it is in his throat. See if he likes his kibble if it has been soaked in homemade broth. Do not let the food be too gloppy or sticky. Baby rice cereal or thinned mashed potatoes are easier to swallow than rice or soaked kibble. You may need to add a second pain relief med such as tramadol. If he likes yogurt it is soft.

May you gave more good quality time with him.

I'm afraid of taking him back to the vet & them putting him on Prednisone to make him eat--to me I feel like that happens only when it's just about "time" and I just cant even go there...Of course I will take him back if I need to, don't get me wrong.
He is taking food out of the bowl & spitting it on the floor, other bites he turns his head a bit while chewing so I'm thinking there may be some pain there. He is on Rimadyl, which he gets twice a day with his food so if he's hurting at all, maybe the Rimadyl has worn off by the time it's mealtime again?
It seems he doesn't like this dry food at all-so maybe its that dry food is too hard. Also I've got an experiment going tonight: he seems to not like cold canned food. When I open a new can he eats mostly anything but if its been form the fridge he is not so enthusiastic. Teeth sensitivity?
What is hard here is that I cant tell if he is getting enough food this way. WHen it was his reg dry food with some canned I knew exactly how much he needed to maintain his weight, but now I just cant tell. He's still a LAB so he still will look at me like "what? what else ya got??" so it shard to tell is he is getting enough, ya cant feed him til he stops eating because he may not stop lol if its soft canned & yummy....send good vibes please, he needs it

Last night he ate his canned food-all of it, still stopping to see if I was going to put something else in his bowl. I think he's getting used to that-so smart.2 hours later he threw up. I think he was coughing though because I didn't hear his belly make that sound and I think I heard a cough kind of sound prior. He sometimes does that due to post nasal drip kind of stuff. The mucous is very sticky. Very. Vet said I could try musonex, I didn't notice it helping...this morning I think he was a in a bit of pain because he turned away from me when I first went to say good morning. Maybe he threw up his Rimadyl last night...going to get more canned food tonight, I have done the math to see how much I need to give him to equal the calories he was getting when he was eating well. Should I start giving his Rimadyl before his food? maybe that would take off pressure in time to eat? or should I go back to the vet to ask for some other kind of pain relief? some other kind in place of Rimadyl or in addition to? Would they even give me something more?

At this point, I would give the vet a call and ask about maybe adding in some Tramadol - it can be an effective pain reliever and can be used in conjunction with NSAIDS such as Rimadyl. As for the food - I would give him whatever he wants, however much he wants. Hopefully you still have a fair amount of time left with him, but now is not the time to be worried about overindulging him - it’s time to spoil him rotten. (((HUGS))) I have been there and know how hard this stage can be. I hope you still have plenty of time left with him.

So it's been what now a week on straight canned I think and he seems well with it until today. This is the first time since he was a puppy that I came home to see he had pooped in the living room. Poor baby must have felt horrible. It was very runny. After clean up and dinner some time later we finally got to the park and he pooped again. Not quite diarrhea but still very runny. I had given him dinner...he ate it all...now here we are at 11:30 and he was just outside with diarrhea. Not just runny poop. Poor buddy I could hear it too and now he has settled back down. Could this be because it's canned food? I will admit that yes lately he's getting that he wants as far as food within reason( I wouldn't give him something like junk outside of this junk canned food..)So he has the usual strawberries oatmeal..pretzels or carrots and his treats. What should I do? I'm not concerned about needing to clean up the house I concerned with why this is happening. I'd normally expect a change in poop following g a change in food but I just don't know about this....thoughts??? Should I give him rice? What if he won't eat it.....
update_ he settled down and slept good last night. I gave him 1/2 his usual amount of canned food this morning in hope of calming his belly. I know they say when there's vomiting or diarrhea to not feed them fro 12 hours...but I did. It was Hills ID that I had left over form Dakotas diarrhea issues and so I felt this could help. I also got him some canned pumpkin. He probably wont eat rice. He spit out cottage cheese even this morning.
I"m going to give the vet a call and ask for Tramadol.
