    It's been a awhile...Montana

I haven't posted here in a long time. Montana has been doing great as some of you may remember he has a sinus tumor. No surgery or radiation, so far only Rimadyl and he's been happy. A few days ago it started: he spit out a pretzel. This dog has always eaten anything. Yesterday he spit out his dry food at breakfast after about only 1/2. Last night he spit out a bit of it again but ate the canned food I had added and a chicken breast from our dinner. This morning: he ate only about 1/3 of his food, spit out all canned food and ate a few organic strawberries, banana & 3 hard boiled eggs. He saw an egg on the table & stood there staring at it. He loves eggs. Usually barks at me while I peel them. Today he waited quietly but gobbled them. Ideas please? What can I try to get him to eat? I am not willing to accept this. He looks to me for more food so he wants to eat but the dogfood dry & canned -must not taste good to him. Pretzels too.

Cook for him. Chicken, hamburger, eggs can be scrambled or hard boiled - fruits & veggies you know he likes. I do up a whole crockpot of chicken with sweet potato & carrots & divide it out into meal portions after it cools enough. I also steam up a whole bag of frozen green beans at a time, so that's ready to serve. When we have steamed squash for dinner, I do enough for 3-4 days for Lucy also.

Agree, cook for him, whatever he will eat. Sometimes it's hit or miss, one day will eat something, the next day not. Keep a variety of goodies in the freezer that you can microwave quick.

    Sending gentle hugs.

Do you think there's any chance this will just pass? Last night I got him a new kind of dry food, mixed it with his regular along with some new canned food and he ate every bite with no coaxing. This morning he ate about 1/3 of this same mixture and stopped and looked at me. I tried several different kinds of canned and he found one he liked so he had that and so.e organic strawberries carrots and more eggs. He left about a bite of egg in his bowl. He has never ever done any of this before and I feel like panic will get me sooner or later. Oh also a bit of peach oatmeal. It's hard to tell if he's getting enough this way though. Thanks for the ideas, mojo would be welcomed. He is so sweet. We went outside and he ran with me smiling the whole time.

It's hard. Jake went off his food right when he was diagnosed. That's how I knew he wasn't well. One morning, my food hound snubbed his breakfast.
I really tried hard to keep him low carb in the hopes that I could slow his cancer. Eventually, I gave him whatever he wanted. When he had tumor spread to his sinuses, the vet put him on prednisone and his appetite picked up more. Really though, whatever and whenever. I know it is sad and scary when they start refusing. Hang in there!

Have you had blood work done recently???
Always a good idea when on Rimydal.... have to be vigilant on the liver values.

Otherwise, trial and error on the food.

When I changed foods it worked for a day or 2 and then they stopped eating again.

Thanks everyone fro the support. He has had bloodwork done & the vet said all was fine, thank God. Recently I started this Turmeric paste-anyone heard of it or tried it? Its all natural, supposed to be great for all inflammatory issues including cancer.
Anyway since I posted this thread he's been great. I've increased his new dry food and added more different canned along with some cottage cheese and this turmeric paste. He's been eating everything except for this morning he left about 2 tablespoons of his dry food in the bowl. Praying this continues.
