seeing the vet less as they age? I wish! Rock has cost me so much since he turned around 9. he is 11 now. bloodwork, urinalysis. two expensie trips due to ingesting (or possibly ingesting) things. Thank goodness Penny has been "cheap" haha (she is on a three year vaccination schedule so just a yearly and heartworm preventative and 4-way snap test).

A tardy thank you to everyone. Lately I've been a little focussed on and consumed by Stella's dental issues. I very much appreciate your comments.
I think we've decided to continue paying as we go. It makes sense for several reasons. We already set money aside. We've been very, very blessed that Achilles and Stella have been pretty healthy throughout their lives and have no chronic conditions requiring regular visits. (I fervently hope Stella's vet visit Monday to check the dental dehiscence is the last one for that purpose!).
Good comments in particular about vaccines. As I mentioned earlier our vet uses IMRAB 3 and the OVMA guidance is to follow the label. Annual vaccination is a worthwhile conversation to have with the vet. It may be a challenging conversation as we live near an area where dogs are routinely not vaccinated.
Patty, would you expand on your Lyme comments? Specifically what is a quantitative C-6 and what does that capture? Where are doxi and mono in the testing/treatment spectrum? That is, experimental, in clinical trials, generally accepted tx, are there studies or papers? While I can surf for this info it's good to ask a real person.
All, thank you again.
