    Montana and Dakota

So its been a while. I haven't been here in a while. Both Montana and Dakota re 11 1/2 years old now, and Dakota is doing great (should I even say that? what kind of luck am I asking for now) I cant seem to keep her on any glucosamine for any amount of time though it always seems to be followed by a bout of her diarrhea and then we stop. now onto Montana. He's been doing great this whole time, had a hiccup in his eating but it straightened out. Now however he is picky. SO picky it is taking me like 25 minutes to feed this boy because I have to try different things. He WANTS to eat and isn't acting any different besides an isolated incident the other night. I woke him up for last call and when he came to me to get his collar, he waited patiently while I did his an then Dakota's-I was doing hers and he fell to the ground. Just as if he was tired of waiting and just layed down but much quicker, so I knew he didn't really mean it. I quickly helped him back up and we went out. No further issues. Hurt my heart though. Rimadyl is $100 a month and its working ( blood work recently was good too). Now that I cant be sure what he is going to want to eat I am running for $20 of ground beef a few times plus chicken livers, various gravies...pasta. He eats a fantastic meal when it is what he wants but it may take me a while to find that. Last week when this began I wasn't prepared, so the 1st few times he turned away from food and then looked back at me with wide eyes ( because he's like What else do you have???) I didnt have any back ups and gave him what I had and had to leave for work, not having gotten a full meal into him I was frantic until I got home & he ate a fantastic dinner. So sometimes its biscuits and gravy sometimes its chicken livers, mostly ground beef. He spits out his Rimadyl now though-wont eat anything dry unless its a scone from my plate. I have to feed him his Rimadyl hidden and crushed in peanut butter.
Ground beef is expensive when its all your dog wants. Ideas please? If i can just find something or a combination that he likes....

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Are you asking what you can feed him that he will eat or what to hide the pills in so he will take them?

ETA - accidentally hit sent before I finished typing. Wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through this, it sure gets tough when they get old.

I've never been in your situation. Is he just being Mr. Fussy Pants or is there a medical reason why he's not interested in eating?

Yes any ideas on what to feed him? How to feed a dog that doesn't want dry food ....anything. And how do I even know if he is getting enough when I cant measure it like I used to with his dry food? I mean being that he wants to eat -he will eat a lot ( like most Labs) and its expensive to have him off of his regular food, so this has become difficult on a few different levels.
And I am trying to keep my emotions out of this, but to just go with what he needs and be thankful he is as happy as he is.

He has a sinus tumor. Vet said it must be slow growing as they expected him to not make it past last fall. We opted for no surgery no radiation no chemo, palliative Rimadyl and he's been doing well however now this.

If the sinus tumor is affecting his sense of smell (?), what about mixing some sardines with his kibble to entice him to eat. Canned sardines aren't expensive.

awesome, hadnt even thought of that. What do you do with them? boil? I gave him chicken livers a few times and its hit or miss with everything. So hard to tell how much he needs of anything outside of kibble.

No cooking, just open the tin. Make sure you get the ones that are in spring water (there are many different flavours) preferably no salt added.

Canned salmon and tuna might work as well. Sending good thoughts.
