Does this drug make your dog drowsy? Just curious.
I heard this drug is used for Mast Cell Disease in humans (member of this board has it and it was given to her but she couldn't tolerate the meds). No, I don't think it makes her drowsy. She is also on Tramadol, Meloxicam and then a handful of supplements.
She is almost 13 now so it's hard to tell if just getting older makes her doze more or the meds. Doesn't matter to me as long as it's helping her for now. I also have more wiggle room with MG as I think it goes to 150 mg.

THANK YOU for your posts! We are leaning toward doing this perhaps in July (when I can take a day off work).

Our little Tootsie had LP since she was about 3 yrs old, well I say that she was a puppy mill survivor so she probably had her cords cut before her rescue there was a lot of scar tissue in her throat. I did look into the surgery years ago but is scared me so we never moved forward. Some dogs have done so well with the surgery and it has made such a difference in their lives. Because of the scar tissue it was hard for the vets to intubate her if she had to have surgery they had to use a tube for cats, it was pretty scary.

We just kept our Tootsie on the lean side, elevated her food and water bowl, used a harness only. Tootsie had a collar but it was loose and only held her tags. We kept her as stress free as possible, even explaining contractors working on the house, yard etc seemed to help her calm down. We kept her cool in the summer and warm in the winter sometimes if it was too cold she would have a problem then too. She could run and play as much as she wanted too although we did have to tell her to take a break on occasion so she could catch her breathe but she usually was able to regulate that herself. Our rescue suggested we use benedryl and our vet agreed when we told them the meds she was taking, it helped her to breathe a little better on those days when it was unbearably hot and humid.

I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery from surgery for Buster.

My lab Emma, was diagnosed with LP abut six months ago. Emma will be 11 in August, 2014. She has trouble breathing and sometimes pants a lot. When she pants when laying down a lot, I give her Pet Rescue drops on a small treat. This is done usually at night. She used to sleep in my room, but now seems to like my ceramic cooler kitchen floor. She did lose her hind legs for a short while. Thanks to my vet Emma regained her hind legs with meds which she will be on for the rest of her senior life. She was on tramadol and metacam, but her legs and breathing did not improve.

She is now on Dexamethazone .5 mg twice a day with food. She is also on Gabapentin 400 mg. for pain. Emma weighs 80 lbs; that is why the mg is high.
As soon as she began taking these drugs she improved 100%. The Dex is a combo of a steroid and a med for her muscles.

Emma now has a slight bells palsy as she does not blink her right eye and her gum line hangs a bit. I noticed about two weeks ago that she had a nose discharge which was green. The vet put her on Clamax (spelling) - (2) 250 mg. tablets twice a day with food. First the green discharge was only coming out of her right nostril, and now that has slowed down but is now coming out a big in her left nostril. The clamax has not completely stopped this health issue. She may have to get scoped. The vet felt she may have a sinus node. Anyway, she used to limp, but with the meds she is on, that has stopped also. Emma can smell food a mile away. There is nothing wrong with her appetite. She does drink a lot of water. I have 3 elevated bowls for food and water around the house.

Does anyone have this nostril discharge with any of their labs with LP. Thank you for your opinions. I am a new subscriber and this is my first time posting.
