So, so sorry. The only thing that popped into my mind was some type of spinal injury, slipped disc, spinal infarct/stroke with the quickly advancing loss of use of his back legs.

Sending more prayers that the problem can be found along with a solution. Also, prayers being sent that Hardy's pain be relieved.

I am really sorry to hear this. Since he is not arthritic my wild guess would be a tumor pressing a nerve which gives the neurological symptoms. I don't know whether an ultrasound, rather than x-rays of the spine would show something like that.

    Continued good thoughts for HardyBear.

    Hang in there.

Thank you.. Yes, the vets and I actually discussed the possibility of tumor putting pressure on a nerve.. So, your wild guess is likely a correct one. I've talked to additional people in the vet field and am trying to make an appointment to see a highly recommended vet that also specializes in acupuncture and holistic practices (also a lab owner and lover) so hoping to see her ASAP to at least get her opinion and thoughts. I'm doing everything I feel that I can do but also know if it's time then it's time and it's my responsibility to let him go no matter how hard it is on me.. It's not about me and I have and will continue to do the right thing for my boy. He's sleeping comfortably on the couch right now.. (yes, he is and always has been a couch dog). I will continue to update as I can and I know I'm new to this wonderful group but I can't say how much the love and support you all have provided means to me and Hardy.. Yes, I've been reading your posts to Hardy so he knows.. Thank you

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that HardyBear continued to go downhill this weekend and yesterday afternoon he was no longer peeing on his own. I spent last night on the tile floor in my kitchen constantly changing towels out from under him as he was continually dripping all night. I was able to get some out when I had him outside but never completely empty. I called vet first thing this morning and after a discussion about him I had to make the extremely difficult decision to let him go. I selfishly didn't want to but I kept telling myself that I wasn't doing it for me.. My boy could no longer stand up, much less walk on his own. The addition of no longer being able to go pee on his own just added to the quality of life factor and without the heavy meds he was in pain. Anyway, thanks for your support in the short time I have been on the forum.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

So very sorry for your loss. Gone way too young.

I encourage you to stay with the board and tell us more about the life and times of HardyBear. I have found that being able to talk to people who understand helps and we understand. My heart goes out to you and your family.

    Rest In Peace Sweet HardyBear
