Oh I am so happy! I just had to brag!

Yesterday was very hot, so instead of taking our dogs for walks we decided to take them swimming. We had a couple errands to run so the closest place was a dock training facility near home. I was reluctant because I wanted my senior to swim and was not sure she could get in and out of the water. She quickly put my mind to rest, my young golden, was on the dock faster than we could get out of the car looking for us to throw the bumper.

My lab Belle, I thought would get the "short end of the stick" here. She often won't swim and she certainly will NOT go off this dock. I got her off once last year, it was a fluke not to be repeated. So we were just playing with the dogs letting them swim, when DH said for me to jump Teddi (young golden) a few times. He was tossing the bumper for the other two into the pond to swim. When at one point Belle came out of the water with her bumper, all happy and bouncy came running around and leaped up on the dock asking me to play with her. So we played on the dock, tug, chase etc, and then I threw her toy and SHE JUMPED IN AFTER IT!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!! I made a big fuss, called her back up, we played some more did it again and she jumped again. No fluke! Then I tried the ultimate test, I put her in a stay at the end of the dock, walked to the end released her and she ran so fast past me and JUMPED!!!!!! She probably jumped 6-8 times and then we stopped before she did.

This is the lab in my avatar. She does jump but only off certain docks and this was one she would not play off of! We have been going here for years and in the last three years, last year and this time were the only times she has jumped.

Next year I am thinking I want to take a road trip, to the Dock Dog (Keystone club) event in PA, it is on a lake. Teddi I know will jump, our young lab we are looking for should be old enough to play if not compete, and I hope we can maybe even get Belle to jump since it is natural water.

Thanks for listening. SOMEDAY she will have witnesses when she does this. That is my big dream. There are so many Belle doubters out there because they have never seen her do it. Yet she can really let one loose. Just once I want her to fly off and let them all see what she can do. Last year I was at a friends house I met dock jumping, we were playing at his pond. He had pulled his dock but the dogs were having a great time. Belle was jumping about 16' off the bank of the pond, and Dan turned to me and said "she really can jump can't she!" I said put your dock back in and let me show you!

Wow, that's super. I know you were thrilled.

Gives me hope for Hoppy!! Maybe one day he'll go off the dock also.
