Check it out! A local dog friend of mine wrote a children's book based on her dog (six year old dachshund). It is about when she adopted her and how she went from being in foster care to her forever home. It was written in a way to help children dealing with adoption/divorce/blended families/etc feel less anxious about what they are going through. It also includes a clinician's guide for talking to children about these things, and there is a website where you can ask Roxie (the doxie in the book) questions and she will answer them. My friend has her PhD in psychology and has worked with kids and adolescents for 28 years, so this should be a good one. She will also answer questions submitted online on Roxie's behalf.
I ordered a copy for my nieces and a copy to keep in Tux's pet therapy bag if any kids want to look at it while we do visits. It also includes very nice illustrations as well as full color photos of the real Roxie. It is the first book in a three part series of books that will be written in the same manner, and focus on Roxie tackling different life events that kids also have to go through.

That's cool. Amazon's "search inside" isn't working right now but I plan to revisit. What a good idea.
