She does have a rather pitiful look on her face, doesn't she? Are you really making me do this?
Sierra will eat just about anything I offer to her. Typical lab. But the one thing she refuses to voluntarily eat is her flea and heartworm medication Trifexis. So I have to crush it up and mix it in her food. She usually tries to make a beeline for her dinner bowl when she knows dinner is ready (but is good about sitting and waiting until I tell her she can start eating). But that never happens on Trifexis night. Here she is standing away from the bowl, staring at me and trying to beg for a new meal. It took about 5 minutes before she gave up and finally ate, but it is always a lot slower than her normal dinners.

Oban eats his meds like they are candy. Other dogs I found sticking it in a blob of peanut butter or cheese whiz worked. A trick I read about but have not tried is to get your dog used to having three marshmallows as a treat and you throw them to them to catch in their mouth. Dogs can count, as we all know, so once they know the three marshmallows are coming they really tend to gulp the middle one in anticipation of the third one. You put the pill in the second one. You start with no pills of course. Three big marshmallows once in a while isn't going to hurt most Lab sized dogs but you could try mini marshmallows too. You might get a very different picture than the one above.

Tux eats pills like candy too. It is so weird. He gets a number of supplements in pill form, and I just pop them in his mouth and he chews and swallows.

What a face!
Something I've heard, Trifexis can cause an upset tummy in some dogs. Maybe she is experiencing this and has connected the smell of the pill with not feeling good afterward.
On a side note, Archie can't take Heartgard which causes vomiting and lethargy in him. We had to change to Sentinel.

Thor gobbles pills like candy, too. Thankful for that lab greed - the dog I had growing up would do everything within his power to avoid taking pills. This was back in the 80s - I remember these teeny tiny pink pills (probably heartworm) that my dad would have to give him. I remember him sticking it in the bowl of canned wet food (who knows what was in that stuff back then) and Dudley would carefully clean every last morsel of food out of that bowl, leaving a clean pink pill leftover in the middle. He would then refuse every attempt to give it to him - cheese, peanut butter, it was a constant struggle.

Libby doesn't do pills. I just hide them in a blob of peanut butter and shove my finger to the back of her tongue and down they go!

Reading about your dogs that take pills like candy makes me dream!!! Murphy doesn't do pills, he sniffs them out in food, peanut butter, hot dogs, cheese, whatever - he will find it. We don't even attempt to hide it anymore. Just stick it in his mouth and close his mouth until he swallows...and then give him a really good treat. Sigh....

Labradors look so forward to their meals, it's like one of the highlights of their day, that I would rather just "pill" them with a pill gun, than ruin their meal. LOL
I like the Bullseye pill gun Amazon.com: Bullseye Pillgun: Pet Supplies
