    Nexgard

For those of us using flea and tick medicines, who uses Nexgard? We've used Top Spot Plus and Advantix but our vet recommended Nexgard because it has less effect on fur and dogs can get wet immediately afterwards. She said that they have great success with it and it is beef flavored kind of like the Heartgard. Any opinions on this?

    Thanks!

I don't use this product. It's tempting because I hate the topicals, but I want to wait until it's been out a while and there are some real life experiences with the product to read about. I get nervous using new things...

I'm with ya on that. I did some searching online and I found a few people who's dog had a reaction (mostly lethargy) and some people who said it didn't work. One mentioned that their vet said it didn't work unless the tick actually bit them. I'm not sure I'm sold on it either, but I believe it's made by the same company that makes Heartgard and Frontline Top Spot Plus. I think it's a different active ingredient than what's in the Top Spot, but I could be mistaken. I've had issues using the topicals on longer haired/thick coated dogs. Not to mention they can't get wet right afterwards...

A friend of mine has been using Nexguard and says she has been happy with the results. She frequents high tick areas.

My dad was telling me about this last week. His vet recommended it for their dogs. They live in a very wooded area, so he said they would try it. He said so far so good. Any ticks he's found were already dead.

We use it for our three and have only found 1 since they started, they have been on it for 2 months now. I was kind of mad that I spent the money for it and then found a tick. I looked on their website and it said that it does not repel them but kills them. So the tick has to bite them and then it dies. I do like the fact that it isn't topical. Our vet recommends it and says it is the best out there.

Had a Vet visit today with Moses
My Vet recommended it too ( so now Moses has it )
One nice thing I like is the weight range (60 to 120lbs) for the one i got Moses
Moses weighed in @ 87.5 lbs. today
Frontline plus and Advat (weight is 44 to 88 lbs .then 89 to 132.) so what too little and what is too much.
Also with Frontline ..he shakes it off a bit ..or i waste a bit

Not saying it is great and maybe i should have did more checking)..

Moses taught is was delicious (another good point)
