    Yellow Lab Terrier

    So, this happened today.

I heard a little ruckus and called Linus out of the shed. He runs out shaking a live rat and proceeds to happily bring it to me as if it were a bird retrieve. I don't want to yell at him because I don't want him to NOT bring me stuff he shouldn't have, but I also hate rats! I realize it's dead and ask him to drop it. He does, we run in the house for a cookie and of course, my phone so I can snap a photo.

When everyone was finished posing, I checked to make sure there were no puncture wounds by looking it over carefully. I also checked it's teeth for that green colored poison. My hands were in garden gloves covered in five poop bags and I used garden tools to check it out and then toss it in the garbage. I also put on my glasses and a hat in case it was only knocked out and then woke up and attacked my face.

Here is my proud boy with his kill. He had a hard time giving it up. Ugh.

You checked its teeth!!! OMG, that's both scary and hilarious! You certainly maintained your senses in a very unnerving situation- maybe you should work in an ER!

Good catch Linus? You are so proud but I think Mom had to pull up her big girl panties.

    Yikes!

Chloe caught a squirrel once - she chased it into a leaf pile at the bottom of a tree and came out holding it in her mouth. I was SO freaked out I didn’t know what to do, so I yelled “Chloe, LEAVE it” at her and she dropped it instantly (which tells me she wasn’t sure what to do with it either or she probably would have ignored me, LOL). The thing immediately scampered about 6 feet up the side of a tree and clung there frozen for a couple hours before eventually wandering away. While it was on the tree I was able to get a good look at it and there were no puncture wounds or blood, so I’m guessing she didn’t really hurt it much other than probably some bruised ribs and the fright of it’s life!

never would have thought to check teeth for poison! (the mouse's teeth? or the dogs? haha)

    Good job Linus! I'm impressed
