    China is in heat again?!

Her surgery is scheduled for the 11th and now she is in heat again. Last time was Oct. 1. Again, guys-I have no experience with this...is this normal?

My concern is #1 whether or not it is normal #2 having to put it off again and then needing to find out if her blood work would still be ok or would they want me to do it again #3 that mammary tumor-we have no idea how long its been there & I want to get it removed asap.

I still have no idea of even an estimate for the cost of this surgery..have to ask for that so I am not floored...

The person you need to talk to is your vet.

Yes, talk to your vet, but that does seem awfully soon to be in heat again. If that’s all it is though, the only part of the surgery that would be an issue is the spay, so you could at least get the mammary tumor dealt with. And it’s not impossible to spay them while in heat, it’s just not advised when you have a choice as it can be riskier. Definitely talk to you vet about their comfort level with it.

I’d also be asking the vet to look into why she is coming in so frequently - maybe some type of hormonal problem?

Thank you...yes I'm definitely going to call the vet this afternoon. I did read that sometimes changes can cause it like changing homes ( such as the 1st time...) changes in food ( I did recently change her food). But what typically is the normal time between cycles?

Typically there is 6 months between cycles, give or take a few months, some are like clockwork, others less so. One of mine comes in between 6-9 months apart, another is bang on 6 months almost to the day, I know of others that cycle closer together, like 3-4 months in between and they frequently have fertility problems.

I think much more is going on with China, because of her variety of health issues, maybe something is wrong with her uterus, and she has abnormal bleeding. You need to talk to your vet, or a reproduction specialist, or maybe even an endocrinologist. Like Annette said, it's not like they cannot be spayed while in heat, it just isn't recommended due to some bleeding risks. I had to spay a girl on the table for her c section, which really isn't recommended, and she recovered just fine. I would be tempted to just go ahead with the spay as scheduled to get it out of there, but they may up-charge you an "in season" fee.

I am sorry you are having so many problems with China, I hope things work out okay for her, and you.

I just called to get her in this afternoon. I'm just nervous about this. I had read that the infection (pyometra?) is usually a different color discharge...but what I'm seeing is rusty which is what I explained to the vet previously (just to make sure it was heat and not infection) anyway and I googled and scared myself to death. So in she goes in 3 hours. I keep watching her and Dakota on the pup cam and I just saw her licking herself. Which is what she did last time too. Now if this is something like her hormones being out of whack-wouldn't spaying solve it?
She is acting absolutely fine in every other way.
She still wakes me every few hours at night, I take her to pee and we go right back to sleep. I was wondering if it was a UTI but when Montana had that it progressed fast right to blood in his pee...with China, it is coming from her vagina ( is it called that in a dog?? omg I am clueless to in tact females) and that area looks swollen a bit to me.

Agree with Shelley and Annette. Something hormonally is out of whack and I'd not want to prolong getting rid of the hormones. How old is China now?

she is 9 years old. I totally want to get her spayed..planned to do it immediately after getting her but she went into heat. They told me to wait, so I had her blood work done then Dakota had to have her surgery and so here we are 3 months later. Just had her x rays done last week and scheduled her for next week. So I'm hoping this can just go away. The spay will take care of any of this I hope??
