    It Tasted So Good

Tonight I had a hamburger. Yes, beef! It was 98% lean, did not make the fat juicy kind, but did it taste good. It's been well over a year since I've been able to do this. With Creon, an enzyme, I was able to eat 98% fat free burger in a very little amount in spaghetti sauce instead of turkey burger. I've been limited to lean turkey (no roast whole turkey), chicken with no fat, and low fat fish, all baked - no frying. Shopping has been a nightmare of reading labels and realizing how limited things were going to be.

But life has to go on. After the huge turnaround doc has me slowly decreasing the Creon. It's an med that tricks the pancreas into thinking it is working so it does not. Now it slowly has to come back on line. It's been fairly quiet for a year so it will take some time. Even popcorn plain, no butter, was over my limit. Now I can have it plain, air popped.

One of the things I really missed was being able to go out for the day, not knowing where I could stop to eat. Chain restaurants are supposed to be able to supply a nutrition list but most often then do not. Soon I'll be able to travel without worries or have to carry what I can eat. It's no fun watching others eat luscious meals while chowing down on Jello and 2% cottage cheese.

Today lean hamburger, tomorrow - who knows!

You sure deserve some "treats". You are the perfect patient, obeying Drs orders to the T.

So happy you are doing so well Fran, both with your hip and panc,

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Yeah for you! Glad you can eat different things now

I feel your pain, I too can't eat a lot of stuff and yes it is awful to watch someone eat something you really REALLY want but alas can't have.

Good for you, I bet that hamburger was mighty tasty!
