    Scout in for Surgery

Just got back to work from taking the Big Guy in for his surgery this morning. He comes home tonight at 7:30. Its routine, scheduled now for almost a month, but boy oh boy do i hate leaving them at the vet's. Trigger is wondering where the Big Dog is.
Scout just turned 10, and its well past time to do a full dental, with a few extractions. In spite of brushing his teeth since i got him at 2yrs old, and getting raw marrow bones to chew, he has some tartar starting, and he's had a few cracked and broken teeth, that the vets have said are fine, but his breath started to stink around Christmas, hoping this clears it up as nothing else has shown to be the cause.
Poor guy also has a growth on his rear, it is between his anus and the base of his tail. It looks like someone has put one of those fuzzy pompoms underneath his tail right at the base, its about 3/4" across. Very slow growing, they aspirated it last year and its not cancerous, but in the last year its gotten larger, and has started interfering with pooping a bit. It also has had several times gotten a slight "split" in the skin of it, that can't be good. And in the last 2 weeks, almost every other dog we meet in class or wherever gets there nose right up in his butt. He doesnt appreciate that at all.
They are doing a "reduction" or "de-massing" it, rather than trying to go deep and get it all out, just because its sitting almost on top of the sphincter muscle, and they were concerned about doing any damage to that muscle/nerves.
Anyway, trying to work, and waiting for a good-news phone call around noon.

I totally understand the anxiety and nervousness when our fur-babes spend some time at the vet away from home. Most of my experiences have been routine surgeries as well (like being fixed). My little dachshund Charlie had to stay overnight hooked up to an IV because he had a stomach bug essentially and needed fluid. That was the most nerve-wrecking.

That said, I'm sending good thoughts and best wishes for you and Scout! Just think, by 8 pm tonight he'll be back home!

Sending good thoughts your way! It's been 10 weeks since Cassie's TTA procedure. I remember waiting for the call that she was out of surgery and ok. Very stressful!

Your title really scared me so I'm glad to read he was not hit by a car and he doesn't have cancer or any number of frightening things. Still, he's under anaesthetic but I'm sure will be just fine since everyone here is rooting for a quick return to health. Poor boy, poor you.

Will be thinking of you and Scout today. Understand totally how difficult it is to not have complete control when it concerns someone who you love.
