    Safe lawn care alternatives?

I wanted to hire a company to do lawn care, but I've been reading there is a link between this and cancer and dogs. Is there a safe alternative to put something down that isn't known to cause harm to dogs? Thanks!

If you're asking about weeding we use a thingy that looks like this. Pesticides are banned here. Down on hands and knees to dig our fingernails into the dirt, grab and pull as well. Both are surprisingly satisfying on a day when some eejit has cut you off on the road or gave you a hard time at work.

Me, I just do it myself. It is a better way to control it. Its not hard just get a spreader and you need to apply it 4 times a year. I do the back yard Hemi area right before a big rain. This lets is all soak into the ground. During the rain and a couple days after he uses the front yard. Then when he returns to the back yard I do the rest of the lawn. Again usually before a big rain. The problem with the companies that comes and do it is they do it on their schedule. It may sit there on the lawn unwashed in for days. Scotts is the brand I use and have found to trust. A lot of their products are considered pet safe but I still make sure it is washed in. If I have no rain coming in the near future when I want to do this which happens some times in summer then I use a sprinkler to make sure it gets washed in where Hemi goes.

We are actually currently doing this, the big rains that just came through Michigan I got everything down in Hemi areas right before. He gets to return to the back yard tomorrow. Then this weekend I will apply everything to the front yard.

Oh there are a lot of natural products you can use through the spreader as well, I have just found Scotts brand to get exactly what I need. I do believe they have an all natural line as well. However I have one neighbor who does nothing at all. Her whole yard is made up of crab grass so I have to get down all kinds of crabgrass inhibitor.

We do the front lawn, but not the back where the dogs go. Our front lawn looks pretty good. Our back is mostly weeds, dirt, and crabgrass, LOL. In addition to the dogs though, we have crappy soil and lots of trees.

we use organic stuff but the gardener does other people and they dont clean the lawnmower in-between so I'm guessing it's futile.
