Our mattress is 6 years old and unless it needs to be replaced (or if we need more room because a certain lab wants to sleep with us and we have to buy a bigger bed) I cannot foresee us buying a new one.
They say that you're supposed to buy a new mattress every eight years. It's actually supposed to be the case that the mattress becomes twice as heavy because of all of the dead skin and crud it accumulates over the years.
Do you do this though? We just hit eight years and I love my mattress! Is it too gross to keep it?

Ewww. How does all that get in there with sheets and mattress pads? I'm on year 8 but I don't wanna buy a new mattress!
Edit: to answer the question we seem to get about 8 years.
Don't know why but buying a mattress annoys me. They hype super long warranties but never seem to live upto the hype.
I suppose if it still gives you a good rest keep it.

We bought a very expensive brand new mattress (my first brand new one ever) and we were told that as long as we used the mattress protector we bought we should get closer to 15 years out of it.

8 years is what the mattress industry says, because, hello- they can sell more mattresses that way! As long as my mattresses are clean and supportive and comfortable they are good enough for me.

we just got a new mattress and they said it should last 15 yrs.
we also got the covers for the box springs and the mattress, since i got grossed out from a show i watched. ask me how much fun nick had, after vangie rubbed her bloody nose on the box spring covers and they had to be removed and washed.
not.
I should have added we tried to do a warranty claim a few months ago. It was denied due to a stain from who knows what.
So, if you need to replace a mattress and think the warranty might help. Clean it first!
If your in the Boston, MA area cant say enough good stuff about Jordan's furniture they stand by what they sell.

years ago I had a sealy pillowtop mattress that started squeeking and used the warranty to get a brand new mattress. I still have that mattress today in a guest room. Now I have a sleepnumber and I am hitting the 8 year mark. I dont see how this mattress wont last forever seeing how its air. My wife and I love it, so if it ever does need to get replaced, definately another sleepnumber.
I got a mattress at costco about 5 years ago and I can't wait until the 8 year mark so I can replace it it's got a foam topper and it just gets uncomfortable when the foam is all pressed down and warm. I would love to try a sleep number.
