    training pads and pads holder

    Hi
Soon in September we will have to start leaving Ella in the house all morning, from 8am to 2pm by herself. We are getting the garage ready with 2 play pens connected together and are thinking about getting training pads and a pad holder for her.
Have you used the pads? what brand would carry the biggest size with a holder for them?
    Thank you!

How old will Ella be? Be careful with the pads and holder as it's very possible she'll eat both. I bought what PetSmart had. Top Paw maybe? Ultimately we used the newspaper cat litter (Yesterday's News) and a giant plastic tray. The tray was still chewed on, so maybe a metal one would work better.

The only thing I've ever felt comfortable using for indoor temporary potty is plain newspaper...and some puppies will even eat that.

I'll try different newspapers, maybe she won't eat the WSJ or the SunTimes

At 6 months, she should be able to control her bladder, if crated, for those 6 hours. I cannot imagine using puppy pads for an adolescent Lab!

i wouldn't use any, she should be fine for that period of time. or use a dog walker to work her up to it (for a few months)

remember to work her up to it as best you can. not sure how much she alone currently but make a point to practice leaving her in preperation for September.

At that age, space for Ella might be your enemy. When Bear was that age, we couldn't use the Ex-pen anymore because he peed and pooped all over it. He respected his crate and held it all day.

Id do a 6 hour trial both ways to gauge how she'll react.

At 6 months I crate the dog. I tried the pen thing and I came home to the pen knocked over and the dog running wild in the garage. Not a good thing since we keep tools and cleaning supplies out there.
