Labradorks (02-08-2018)
Just three days after we let Kimber go, we moved four hours away. It's been something of a blessing, as the new house does not have ghosts. We don't constantly think we see or hear Kimber, as was happening in our old house. We cried *a lot* the first week, but we're starting to pull it together.
We agreed to wait a while before adding to our family again, as both DH and I have started new jobs, we are still figuring out the area, and we have a few long vacations this spring that would disrupt puppy raising time. This is a very logical and rational decision, but I miss being around a dog. Much to our great joy, our neighbors across the street have a four-month-old black lab puppy. He is everything a lab puppy should be: squooshy and soft and busy and bitey. He is so adorable and he's already drawn blood on my husband, who just can't keep his hands out of labradors' mouths. This past weekend we ran out every time there was a Magnus sighting. I was a little concerned we might come off as stalker-y, but the neighbors seem to understand that having a puppy will just bring people into their yards. LOL. I already volunteered to be a puppy emergency contact, in case the owners get stuck at work and need someone to check on Magnus. He's doing really well with potty training, so maybe we can puppy sit him soon!
On a sad note, one of Kimber's walking buddies unexpectedly died yesterday. At lunch he was fine, and then when the owner got back from work, he found Casper. The vet says it was most likely something very quick, like a heart attack or stroke. The owner feels terrible that Casper was alone, even if it was quick, but we both take comfort in the idea that Casper and Kimber are now enjoying pack walks together.

So sorry to hear about Casper, but glad that Kimber has her walking buddy with her now. You are so lucky to have a lab puppy very close that you can visit when you need a little bit of 'lab fix'. And a black one at that!!

So sorry to hear about Casper, may he rest in peace. Good luck with the new careers and new house!

Lots of changes to keep you busy, that's good. Bittersweet to leave the home where Kimber lived so soon but as you said, it makes for a clean break.
Sorry to hear about Casper. While in some ways it's nice that they didn't languish in pain over a long time, loosing them suddenly like that just sucks. I don't know to what point they are truly "present" when that sorta thing happens that their being there would have made a difference, the dog was in his home and content.

It is such a tough transition. I never considered whether a new home would make hearing them when they're not there any less common but it seems right. It is nice to think of Kimber and Casper romping around together through heavenly fields of grass and sunshine. I hope things continue to move forward and I'm glad Magnus is there to absorb some of your puppy love until the time is right for you.

Aw gee, I'm sorry your doggy friend has died too, somehow that makes it even harder. It does take a long time to get over the sadness. For some strange reason I dreamed about my cat, Itty Bitty Kitty, last night. We lost her to old age about a year ago and in my dream she got outside and did not come home and I was crying and crying. I even asked the OH if I was crying out loud in my sleep.
Your puppy neighbour Magnus sound lovely. Maybe they would join and show him to us? Or would they let you?
