DH and I discussed this a lot when trying to figure out when Stormy was 4 months old for the weight challenge (double the weight at 4 months). I leaned toward 16 weeks, he voted for a birth day match. Very curious to hear others' thoughts!
When referring to the age of a puppy...do you go by weeks or months?
For example:
If a puppy was born on September 13th and it is now January 31st...is this puppy 20 weeks old (which would equal 5 months) or is he 41/2 months old?
I hope I'm not too confusing. I'm just curious how breeders look at this when referring to age.

I am also very curious! I hope others will chime in!
I typically start talking in months around 6 months.

One of my neighbors, owners of poodles, kind of made fun of me when I said Henry was about 16 weeks old. He said, "Oh, you're still measuring in weeks". Yeah. For our 4 month weight, I used his 4 month birthday, November 14, on which date he was actually 17 1/2 weeks old. His breeder wished us a happy 6 month birthday on January 14 even though he'd hit 26 weeks 2 days earlier.

I counted weeks until about 6 months. However, we still weigh Lido weekly, even though he's now 8 months old.

For his breeder's records and to keep the health guarantee I had to weigh Oban every other week till he was one year old. So counting weekly came naturally. But once he hit six months I did tend to think of his age in months.

I go to months at about 4 months old, sounds weird to me to say 20 weeks or whatever. Kinda like 4 months is the end of little baby stage so weeks arent necessary anymore

I tend to make the switch at 3 months. I associate 12 weeks with puppy shots and then just automatically think in months. That said, I still think of Dan in fractions of years (now: two months shy of 10). I must prefer some degree of precision. (maybe because Sunnie's age is so imprecise)
