    The Eagle

I was on my way home from group field training yesterday and I spied this Eagle on what looks to be a deer carcass in a field along busy Rt13. Not the greatest shots as they were taken with my iPhone.

These two were taken from inside my car parked on the shoulder of the road.

I got out of the car, and he immediately flew off.

All cool to see an Eagle, but was pretty surprised to see one this close to a busy highway!

They're gorgeous birds. We see them fairly often around the various local lakes. One of the lakes we frequent yielded nine to our eyes a couple of years ago (someone posted on their Facebook page that 21 or so had been counted that day).

    SO neat.

I got some stills and video a month ago of four bald eagles on something edible and once alive. Two adults and two immatures. One adult had the food but had to keep chasing the younger two away. The fourth eagle, second adult, flew away

I would say he was 30-40 yards from the shoulder of the road, which is a busy divided highway. I was pretty surprised to see one that close to the road.

That is pretty close for one to be near a busy road.

I work a few hundred meters from the St. Clair River which separates Ontario and Michigan. It's not uncommon to see eagles over the river or over my workplace . . . when I don't have the camera. It is a rare sight when I do have it.

LOL, I would say the same thing about turkeys. Up close, ie. long lens, they have wonderful red and blue colouring on their heads. They also seem to have some weird ESP, early warning system, whatever, because if I have the camera and the time to stop they are all half a mile out in the field.

I don't usually notice many around where I am but saw one recently driving up from downtown Baltimore, I was driving, not the eagle, and it was all I could do to keep my car in my lane and crane my neck to look at it simultaneously. It's a pretty busy highway here, too, but it follows a major stream through much of the city so it's not totally crazy to think they'd be there. It's so neat to see them when you aren't expecting to!
