We lost Zo inside the house.

My husband called to tell me he was on his way home. We had a storm on the way. I went upstairs to lie down until he got home. Crated the dogs first.

I ended up falling asleep and it rained in the meantime. Came downstairs about a half hour after my husband got home. He was watching the news. We chatted as I stood by the stairs where I couldn't see the couch. Then he asks, "So, where's Zooey?" I laughed and said, "You're kidding, right?" He was not. Her crate was empty and he hadn't let her out as I had assumed.

I ran around like a maniac, calling her. Many years ago I lost a cat inside my fridge for about 10 minutes after I unpacked groceries and she snuck in but I've never lost a dog so I just assumed she had escaped the house somehow. All of the doors were securely closed, including the basement door.

I called and called. Finally, I heard a noise, opened the closet door and there she was. Don't know how she managed it but she broke out of her crate, opened the closet door and closed it after her. Presumably, she then fell asleep.

    Dang dog.

    That's too funny.

I tore my tiny apartment apart (which didn't take long) to find that cat. Finally I stopped and thought about it, retraced my steps, opened the refrigerator door and there she was on the bottom shelf fast asleep. Curiously, both she and Zo were/are attention seekers in the worst way.

That gives your heart a jump start. Believe it or not, I've "lost" Archie a couple of times. He's a slender boy and if Mardi is laying on her bed in the living room, he can lay down on the far side of the bed and basically disappear. I'm running around trying to find him and all of a sudden there's a nose in my butt - Here I am Mom.

Really scary. I have lost cats in the house. Finally realized that if someone lets them out, generally they know it, so if you didn't see them run out, they are usually somewhere in the house.

When I read the title, I thought "Oh Mocha's a big boy, we'd never loose him in the house". But after reading your post, I see it's possible! Oh, I just can't imagine the fright. Probably won't ever loose him in the fridge , but I can see a closet or other room or even the basement (if he ever gets over his fear of the stairs). And I just know our cat would probably be the one closing the door behind him

Just remembered an incident with Mom's cocker. Dad went next door to borrow some tool, walked into the walk in basement and did not realize Ginger followed him. Neither he nor the neighbor noticed and she got shut into their basement for several hours. We searched all over before she was found and let out. Mom was frantic.
