    Registered Name

I still haven't done Thor's AKC registration yet, mostly because we can't come up with a registered name. Seriously - I hope we never have children if it is going to be this difficult to name them! It took forever to choose the call name of Thor (husband's pick), and I wouldn't even commit to that until I had the pup in my arms to see if it was a good fit (big and white blonde fur - check, Thor it is).

We're not required to use our kennel's name (though they don't disallow it). He won't be a show dog and at best might do some agility or dock jumping, but mostly he is a shop dog in my husband's blacksmithing garage. We want the name to have a nod to that (The name Thor came from looking around the shop one day and commenting on all the hammers). Something with blacksmithing, forging, fires, hammer, mighty, etc.

Hubs suggested: (Thor) Thundering Hammer of the Forge

It really is kind of meaningless since he won't be bred or shown, but I still want a good one! Anyone else struggle as much with this?

My first one came to me with a registered name. The second one ended up with a joke registered name as I never thought I'd show him. And the third was pretty easy. I typically try to "keep it in the family", which makes it easier for me.

I think your hubby picked a great name. And yes it takes forever to decide on a name.for a child. You are doing it now...just a puppy "child". We have.one of each, it was a major decision both times.

I need to do this for Emma and I'm in the same boat. I'm far from creative!

Use your husband's name, and call him "Name's Thundering Hammer" or use your last name.

Well, here he is, "Thundering Hammer of the Forge". Hubs went ahead and registered him. Thor looks thrilled about it!

We already have the registered name for our black boy who is 1 1/2 years away from being born.

We decided the name has to have a special meaning to one or both of us. So we wereally walking our girls a couple of weeks ago and while chatting just started throwing out names .... Hubby more than me and I was just saying "yuck, that is terrible". But in the end he spouted a name .... and I went "yeah I like it". So baby dog will be "?'s Tarkington" .... so call name Tark - hubby went to Prudue and that was his residence and he loved it.

So I say, just go for a walk and start sprouting names even if some are lame. That is how we picked a baby name too, not that we have a baby yet, but we are trying.
