Sam has a lump in his cheek

I was looking at Sam this morning and thought his left cheek looked swollen. If felt the spot and it's a lump. It's free moving and doesn't appear to be attached to anything. It's not quite as big as a marble but pretty close. I called the vet and made him an appointment for Tuesday afternoon. DH speculated a bug bite but I don't see any marks. If it is a bug bite it should go away by Tuesday afternoon and I can cancel the appointment. I absolutely hate lumps but Sam is so young I have to believe its nothing serious.

Why not give him a dose of Benydryl, 1 mg per lb of his weight, and see if it helps the swelling? If it is a bug bite it should help. Sending good thoughts for Sam!

One of my girls had a lump on her leg that started out very small, pecan size. The vet said it was nothing. It grew and grew to the size of a golf ball. We had it removed. It was benign, which were pretty sure was the case being we had it aspirated a few times before removing. One of my other girls has several lumps (she's 13) and they are all free moving, soft masses. We have had one of them aspirated too. Nothing to worry about. The vet said Labs are known for these types of masses. And, yes, I agree try Benadryl. Certainly would not hurt. Good Luck!

Do dogs metabolize benedryl different than people? Sam is 92 pounds so at 1 mg per pound he could take almost 4 benedryl (the ones I have are 25 mg). I would be down for the count if I took that much benedryl!

I have never noticed a big effect in mine I have heard a few people say their dog slept good that night! Maybe start with 3 if that makes you more comfortable. I have a very mellow boy, he was stung by a bee last year, the vet had me give him 4 and I noticed no difference.

That's the dosage I've used. Mardi is 80 pounds and I would use 3 pills.

Sending along good thoughts. Please keep us updated.
