Jake's sister invited us over for dinner for her birthday this past weekend. They live almost an hour from us, so we asked if we could bring Bacon. They have a husky, so I thought they would understand, and be happy to have Bacon over. I was very wrong. She then made up an elaborate excuse, saying there would be too much chaos. Jake then explained if we brought his crate, Bacon would simply lay in his crate and sleep. She then muttered something about there not being enough room for his crate (I call BS on that one, they have a HOUSE. Bacon has hung out in his crate at several friends APARTMENTS). I then politely and bluntly told her that we will not be attending then. With how long the dinner would have been, he would have been by himself for at least 5 hours. On a day we didnt work, that would be no problem. However, both Jake and I worked all day, so he was in his kennel all day too. I am not the type of dog owner who is content having her dog in a crate for the majority of the day. ARGH!

Would've done the same thing and your labeling it is spot on: a lot of annoying, unnecessary and useless BS. Just wonder why.

I also would have done the same thing. Although Ram isn't crated, I very seldom go out in the evening if I have been at work all day. Considering your SIL has a dog, she should understand.

I totally get you, I would have done the same. I don't understand why she didn't want Bacon over though, since she already has a dog.

I'm the same way. If I cannot bring Roxy, I don't go either. We are a packaged deal. I have noticed that a lot of people don't seem to understand that you can't work all day and leave the dog in the crate again to go out after work. Scary, isn't it? I wonder if those people would like being crated that long?

My pride and joy, R.I.P.
We do the same. It is a little different because Bacon is still so young, but really being crated all day long is enough. I don't get it.
On a slightly different peeved note, I had some neighbors move in last week and they have a black lab. They keep him kenneled in an outdoor run while they are outside on their patio. I don't get it. Poor guy could see her and me playing with my dogs and he barked like crazy. I almost asked her if he wanted to come over to play...
Same here and it is why we don't go as many places as we could. I don't get upset about it, I consider it their loss. I am happy for others to bring their kids, dogs and assorted family members to my house, I don't like them all. I just don't let it get to me. Don't tell me to put my dogs away when you come here either, bad idea!
