    The Elk Cow

So up at the mountains yesterday I came across an elk cow. Opie instantly wanted to go make friends but I told him to "leave it" and "stay tight" (he did). So here she is . . .

"ah c'mon, beautiful, can't you give me ONE little smile?"

You are so lucky to get those shots. There is a moose cow and calf in my area and I'm the only dog walker that hasn't seen them in person.

All you can see here is European roe deer (capreolus capreolus) you can take a look here: Picture of srnec Capreolus capreolus Roe Deer Reh. They're also quite cute and nowadays surprisingly tame. Just the other day on our early morning walk there was one, proudly marching some twenty yards in front of us and apparently not afraid of me or Mel at all. She was lucky that Mel has zero pray drive, so, although she was off leash, it was really easy to have her stay with me.
