    Our new baby lab!

We picked up our 8 week old yellow lab on Friday! She is so cute and is starting to get used to our house. She naps a LOT and is such a snuggle bug. She didn't have any accidents in the house today! She is biting EVERYTHING. She has several chew toys and even ones with treats inside. She's been going after coffee table legs, human legs (mine and my husbands), and carpet!-image-jpg We've been letting her out around 3am to potty and she yelps my 6:30 to eat breakfast. we are trying tk determine if we should let her wake us up at night if she has to go, rather than the other way around? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Welcome! She is adorable! When my puppy was that age I would take her out whenever she whinned at night. I just made sure I kept it very brief and boring. I would turn on a little nightlight, carry her outside to her potty spot, and then carry her right back to her crate. It was not too long before she could go all night. I would personally not put her on some kind of overnight schedule, I would take her out whenever she wakes up needing to go. The biting and mouthing is very normal. If you search puppy biting on here you will find a lot of useful information.

Congratulations on that cutie! We woke up on a 2-3 hour schedule at night to take Gabby out. It only took her a few days until she slept through the night in her crate, but each pup is different that way. Keep lots of chewy things close at hand, and re-direct the mouthiness to something appropriate (I swear that we had stuff she could chomp on in every room of the house!)

Awww! What a sweetie! I love those wrinkles.

We have a 6 month old and I won't lie - the first few months were tough! We took him out once each night with no fanfare - out to the pee spot, does his business, back to bed. Within 2 weeks he was holding it all night.

The biting was the hardest thing for us. He didn't stop until his adult teeth came in around 5 months, then it completely stopped. Redirection was the key, as well as loud yelps every time we felt teeth on skin. Now his bite inhibition is fantastic. He'll still occasionally put teeth to skin but it's very gentle. I can grab his jaw and put my hand in his mouth and he barely puts any pressure on me. If you had told me even a month ago that that would ever happen, I would have called you a liar! Just be consistent and she'll be great!

Thanks everyone! She slept from 10:45 -5:45 without any accidents or whining! We were shocked when we heard her whine for the first time this morning! She is snuggling on my lap right now and whines after she's done eating.. She seems to like to do that in the morning.. Could it be that she misses her mama? I love her so much!
