    Whole snout in water bowl

Murphy, who just turned 5 months old, has begun to stick his whole snout into the water bowl and seems to like drinking his water this way. Then when he's had enough he puts his paw in and splashes. I wouldn't mind so much but he is making a mess. He has a plain solid color water bowl so theres nothing on the bottom he's trying to get, I can't figure out why he started doing this. Any ideas to make him stop? Do you think he's just playing?

Maybe playing. I'm sure you'll get other advice but I will say Jax likes to stick his nose in and blow out to make bubbles. He will only do it in the large bowl outside (luckily) however he still manages to get water from the kitchen into the living room just by drinking.

Chase sticks his nose down into the water bowl and drinks like that on occasion and he's now 7 years old. He's done it since he was a little pup. Both he and Lark used to dig/splash all the water out of the bowl as puppies but they don't do it any more. It was cute, frustrating, and I kind of miss it... HA! Not really! I'd make them stop most of the time but sometimes, well, what the heck. He'll probably outgrow the splashing.

It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Yep!! Very common especially for water loving labs!!! Enjoy as usually they outgrow it...they are fascinated by water!

I have to admit it's cute when he does it because he just loves the water and is having fun...but what a mess! LOL

Zoey still plays in the water bowl occasionally, so does my 5 year old corgi. Its just fun I suppose

You think the water bowl is bad, Zoey has a thing for toilets, she learned how to open the lid at about 4 months old. She was endlessly playing in the toilets, she has grown out of it for the most part but occasionally I find one of her balls in the toilet

Reba puts her whole snout in the bowl and then dripping, comes over and sticks her face between my knees!
Cassie "digs" in any bowl or bucket that is not her own. Funny at the dog park, not so much at other peoples' houses!
Murphy does both! That makes him very special and you very lucky!

Archie just started playing in his water bowl. He makes a total mess. He's a very sloppy drinker too. Mop up cloth is kept close.

Luna plays in her water bowl all the time. She likes to hold the bowl with her paws and just lay her entire snout in it also. Totally normal... I find an LL Bean water hog mat helps. A raised feeder is also helpful, they can't lay down with the snout in it if it's raised up! ;-)
