    Record summer rain!

I pray our Long Island NY forum members are high and dry, or drying out, after this morning's record deluge. I thought of Betty's new basement and Nick's prized car.

The reports have been horrible. DB and SIL were to fly out of Baltimore today. They had heavy, heavy rains last night and wondering if they made it out. Have not been able to get through to them so maybe they did.

Hoping all our lab board family in the area is safe.

Forgot about Bawlamer after the local channels starting talking about Long Island! Hope all are okay.

I don't think I wanna buy a used vehicle from there any time soon: flooded cars were all over the highways as folks had to be rescued by firetrucks.

Wow, I'd hate that. We had a downpoor last night. Nothing near that amount, and DW won't let me go drag the driveways that have mini Grand Canyons across them now. Hope they're all ok over there.

oh boy..... the storm system was pretty intense. the photos and videos are wild, boy, just after getting stuff sorted out... Didn't we have a member who cared for his elderly mom, who was pretty much camping in his house as he was rebuilding it after the hurricane? pretty much gutted it and even had to replace some of the framing....
Sure hope Betty hasn't had another flood....

Have you guys seen the photos of what happened in Detroit? The rain was so heavy it completely filled some of the expressways. Thousands of cars flooded, homes, hospitals and businesses flooded, A couple of deaths, including a 100 yr old woman who drowned in her basement.
    Some of the photos:

And Betty, this one's for you. Always remember, it could have been worse.

Oh, and the freeway flooding was caused by the failure of the pumping system. And the reason it failed, was the unbeknownst to the authorities, scrappers had broken in and stolen essential copper parts out of the pumps. Gaaah. People may think these scrappers don't do much harm, after all it's mostly abandoned houses and buildings, but this is over the top damage.
