Why Kimber gets crated at night

At about 1 am, Kimber made some "I'm in distress" whimpers, which I always take seriously, so I woke right up, got her out of her crate and let her outside, and sure enough, she *really* had to pee. (Turns out DH and I both thought the other had let her out right before bedtime for a final potty, and neither of us had.) So that was all totally legit.

When we got back inside, Kimber ran over the corner where we sometimes let her sleep, and lay down, wagging her tail. "Okay, you can sleep there," I said, and crawled back into bed.

Ten minutes later, Kimber was at the bedroom door, asking to go out. Given her totally legit previous outing, I took her outside. Where she immediately started hopping around the yard, wanting to play. When that didn't work, she got comfy in her favorite spot in the yard to watch for deer. Umm, NO.

We went back inside and this time she got put into her crate. I got out a book so I could read, because of course now I was wide awake!

In her defense, it was a gorgeous night outside.

little imp! love the attempt at "oh I'll be good, if you let me sleep here tonight!"
mine have all learned the command "no, its BEDTIME" while transitioning from crate in bedroom to crate-free. if they didn't settle, it was into the crate to sleep. They caught on pretty quick. (thats a pup and 2 adults now that have learned that). Of course if there was any doubt there was a need to go out, they got taken outside 1st, then back to bed. I like my sleep, and don't like it interrupted!

It's funny how sometimes they like to persuade us to their way of thinking. My lab did the same the other night...I need to go outside to pee...she goes out and doesn't pee and then precedes to do a sniffing of the perimeter of the yard to check who and what was going on. Any way I was suitably annoyed and took her back inside. Two hours later she woke me again and this time she did need to pee!!!! I was annoyed but she had never done this before so she was excused this time.
