I don't do "fads" like this either. Never have, don't like it. Waste of water? You bet! Here in the desert southwest, they are doing it . . .STUPID! Just challenge some one to donate, why waste the water and put shock on your body!
What are your thoughts on the whole thing? I get that it's raising tons of money or ALS, I just don't like the use of all that water. Seven years ago, when the southeast was in a HUGE drought, I can't imagine this wouldn't have been banned. Heck, here you were going to be fined if they caught you washing your car or watering your lawn/shrubs during that time.
Facebook is all about the bragginess but everyone posting videos of this is really getting old.
Thoughts?
ETA: I have to admit, the parody Dave Grohl of the Foofighters did of the movie Carrie, was pretty funny.

Quit wasting water. Donate time, money or both.

Hmmm, good points, never thought of that.
I don't know how it works. I thought someone made a challenge and it was do it or pay up? No?
Pouring a bucket of ice water over your head might be a stupid thing to do but thing is though, people like stupid and it raises tons and tons of awareness for an illness many people knew nothing about before. The donations have skyrocketed at least here in Quebec. Even if most people only donate the 10$ and do the challenge many, many of them would never have donated at all.
My boyfriend's father died of ALS two years ago though so I might be biased... I never knew him, it was before my bf and I got together but it was a terrible thing for my bf and his family. And that money being donated might mean some other family won't have to go through this.
Edited to add: I have to say that we do have tons and tons of water here and it's not as if that water was going to be sent to arid places if people weren't doing that challenge... heh...

As I said above, I understand that it's raising awareness and money. Why can't people just donate instead of all the "LOOK AT ME DOING THE ICEBUCKET CHALLENGE!!" Hell, if I get challenged, which I am pretty sure is going to happen at 6:00 tonight, I'll make the donation and post a photo of that instead of wasting water.
Now I just sound like I'm whining. I guess my point is the desperate attention whore aspect to the whole thing. I know for a fact that my husband's nephew didn't do this to raise awareness for ALS nor did he donate. He did it so he could post it on Facebook. THAT is what irritates me about this. That and wasting water to be a DAW. Grrrrr.

It's raising awareness and people aren't just doing the challenge but they are donating the money as well. It may be silly but it's doing a lot of good.
