    Wet Dog Smell ..

    Hi Everyone,

Looking for some tips here on helping Sugah with the smell. She loves to go to the dog park (there's a water hose) and the creek and play in the water. She is constantly getting wet!! .. I'm fine with her getting wet and she loves it, but after a while, she gets that "wet dog smell" ... I started bathing her once a week, but it was too frequent and caused dandruff so I stopped .. I'm looking for tips on a lotion, deodorant or any tricks that someone may have used to help with the odor. Would appreciate any advice ... thanks

I usually rinse Opie off with clear water, (garden hose) after his lake swim but that's more for nasty drying up lake smell than wet dog. Lol

Lab should be bathed no more of once a month. Hammer only gets a bath like.... every 3 months I think? Really whenever his ears get bad. You could probably go to your local pet store and find a spray. We have some at our kennel. They come in many different scents. Maybe you could look online.

Just a thought but is the hose supplied with lake water? You think you're rinsing off the icky water but not.

Ha ha but that garden hose is feed by an lake 700+ ft below ground where moss, algae! and fishes don't grow.

I have a deodorizing spray by Nature's Miracle.Nature's Miracle Supreme Odor Freshening Spring Waters Dog Spray, 8-oz bottle Sam often reeks after a good swim (even after he's rinsed off) and the spray takes care of the smell.

Thanks to all .. Georgia I think what you're using is going to be perfect! Sugah, plays in the creek, not sure of the source of the hose in the park .. but I always rinse her at home. I have well water and I know it's smelly at times. I need the deodorant spray! I'll look for it in my local pet store. Thanks

At the suggestion from someone on this forum, I just mix water with a bit of Listerine in a spray bottle.

Usually a good rinse with the hose works for us
