    Nick update

ok, took two hours to get to the hospital. enough to make me sweat.
did the surgery, was able to use his own piece of tibia that had to be cut away, as the bone graft. good. 3 screws, that he had to see when the propofol was wearing off. yuck. all wrapped up ,and in a splint. i left before he was out of recovery after being there for 12 hours. i'm spent. he's in pain but shot up with meds so not really moaning and groaning.

dr doesn't want him on the steps. ok, two weeks upstairs and me with a whip. not gonna be easy. i told him before that he should go down the steps on his bottom and he said he could walk with the crutches. um.no, said the dr.

this will be 3 months of non weight bearing splint, cast, and boot. and then we go from there.
dr said he has no idea how he went to work, as the arthritis was horrid.

going back in the morning, staying a couple of hours, and back to the dogs. my older son came tonight, and cory will go tomorrow night as well as friends who are leaving for italy for a few months.
9/11 he's on his own as i am still too freaked to deal with ny on that day.

don't know when he's coming home, fri or sat and i'm getting a limo because i think the subaru is too bumpy and the audi too small and i just cant.

i'll fill you guys in more tomorrow but so far , so good. now we need it to heal.

What an ordeal! Three months of non-weight bearing? Oh Geez! Will he get one of those little knee scooter things to help him get around whatever level he's going to be confined to? Do you have a bedroom on the same level as the kitchen and living/family room? You'll be run ragged! Maybe it's time to train one of the dogs to go get a cold one out of the refrigerator and bring it to him! A limo for his trip home sounds like a perfect option- plenty roomy and you won't be the one sweating over the traffic.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

    Thanks for the update.

Think the limo idea is perfect. I'd suggest the SUV/Humvee type limo as the others, cars/stretch, are too difficult to get into. The SUV type has wider opening doors and more leg room.

I can just visualize you with your whip.

Sending healing prayers for Nick and tons of patience for you.

Thanks for letting us know that the surgery portion of this long journey went well. From personal experience I know that the non-weight-bearing weeks will seem endless to you both. I became quite adept with the going up and down stairs via the bum method. Not fast but it is safe. Sending you positive thoughts.
