You got to do what is safe for Gauge. It's going to be a fun time when the pheasant are available. Don't pout, you're only being kept safe.
Today is the beginning of hunting season so no more off leash runs in the fields. I take him to state game lands and normally nobody there except during hunting season. There is a small park with some water so he can still go swimming and he can still go to state game lands on Sundays when you cant hunt and of course his huge back yard. In a few weeks they will stock for pheasant so on a sunday we will take him he loves flushing the pheasant.

soon here too. but we have a couple areas theres no hunting.
on a side note, Scout flushed about 9 wild turkeys just before lunch out the back field at work here. I hadn't even seen them, he made a beeline around the corner of the bush, and WHOOOSHHH up they went, except one launched across in front of him - baaadd idea bird! he came back with a few feathers, and the bird was sure squawking as it was trying to fly away.
We keep going out off leash but avoid certain high use areas.
Gee, it's too bad the OH no longer hunts. Oban put up two grouse yesterday and one was an easy shot. We encourage the dog on birds reasoning it helps keep him off deer.
