Get a cat! ;-)
I heard a mouse in my walls. I have heard it for two days off and on. At least I think it was a mouse. I have seen no mouse droppings or any other signs of a mouse as I have gone over the house as best I can. This completely grosses me out.
I put mouse traps inside paper bags so I don't have to touch anything if it catches one but nothing so far but occasional noise in my walls. Using DCon scares me because of Macy. Has anybody successfully used those sonic noise thingys?

Neither the sonic things nor our cats had any effect. One of our cats wouldn't even put his paw on a mouse I'd caught and was holding in my hand. Of course, not all cats are such wusses.
We put traps in the dropped ceiling in the basement and haven't had issues since (also plugged up tiny holes with steel wool or caulk).
You definitely don't want a mouse dying in your walls. Peeeee Yuuuuuu. One was stuck in our wall and required cutting the wall to extricate. Of course, Bob didn't want to do it so I had to shell out $$$ to an exterminator who was so....weird?.....inexperienced?....that he ended up "borrowing" one of my kitchen forks to kill the mouse before getting it out of the wall. (Since referred to as "forking the mouse".)
Anyway.....good luck with the critter leaving.
One thing we discovered for keeping mice out of our sheds was to put a bottle of peppermint or spearmint essential oil in the building (with a diffuser reed sticking out). The smell has to be really strong but they don't like it. Not sure that would work in a house, though....it wouldn't in ours.
A good Ol fashioned western diamond back rattlesnake'll get that mouse outta there for you!! (I joke, I joke, don't do that)
find a dog who does barn hunt or is a ratter. That will solve your problem.
I wouldn't use any chemicals due to the risk of the dog getting into it.
Yuck! They dart in and out so fast.
Definitely don't use poison. If your dog gets a hold of a mouse that has consumed poison you could lose your dog. Traps or a kitty are your best bet!

No answers but a funny story. My sister had a mouse in her house. She saw it scurry across the floor and yelped out of surprise. Her 3 yr old daughter screamed and jumped on the bed. Her 6 year old son got his sword and unsheathed it in hallway and stalked around the house looking for the mouse and protecting the women folk. Such a good boy! They caught the mouse on a sticky board behind the fridge.

Try an electronic rodent repeller, I have friends that had good luck using them.
It's quite possible that it's not a mouse, but bees instead. My son had just transitioned from crib to 'big boy bed', and began waking me up at night crying that something was in the wall. Sure enough, I could hear the scratching noise - beating on the wall didn't seem to stop it. Bring on daylight and it was a whole new ball game - beating on the wall created a cloud of bees pouring outside of the house (thank goodness they never made it inside). It turns out that we had a hole under the siding that gave them access. Nasty business, but got rid of them when night fell.
