    labs are easier

    than french bulldogs.

    OMG what was I thinking?

you know how labs get a bath, maybe once a year?
    well, bad me.

eli stunk. we couldn't figure it out . six months we have him and never a bath. so….we gave him his first bath and most of the horrid smell is gone but he still has a distinct aroma. i did some reading and some owners even bathe them every month. oh boy. where was my head.?

and as far as training. what training? eli was the star of the class, and the youngest . come home, say "come eli" and he either completely ignores me, of gives me the "wahhhhhT" look and ignores me. yeah, long leash and all. training him has been a complete challenge and makes labs look like wonder dogs.

i am told, that the light goes on at a year, but really?
he is never without his harness and a long leash trailing so i can find him, and see what damage is being done.

he just started a bit of marking, most outside but did pee on the other 's bed, right after i stopped him from peeing on a rug. looking right at me. not my fav.

    i wanted this puppy.

    examine my head, please.

    Awww, but he's so cute!

Yeah, DH and I often say we'd be very hesitant to get anything but a lab from here on. We know how labs work. Other breeds are a mystery.

I hate to even say this but my daughter has a friend with one that she is still fighting to completely potty train, he is 3. He is easily the most stubborn little creature I have ever seen, listens to no one and does things if and when he feels like it. It is not for lack of training or classes, he just does not care and treats have no power with this guy. Cute as a button but I would be pulling my hair out! Hopefully Eli will be much better behaved in the near future, I don't have much hope for this other little guy. Thank goodness his mom is so dedicated and loves him.

You know one little dog I have gotten to really admire recently. I have ran into 2 of them in the last couple years and impressed by both are the Alaskan Klee Kai, miniature Husky. I have run into them in Agility and Freestyle. Terribly cute little things but very smart. However, I will never give up labs and everyone knows Happiness is a Hemi.

I've heard they are buggers to house train. Eli is just living up to the breed standard, LOL.

You just have a teenage boy dog, with the small dog sneaky pee and stubborn bulldog issues. This, too, will pass. There are always "bad boy pants" or belly bands, although I have no idea how you fit that kind of torso! The good news is that being a small dog, he may fast forward through adolescence more quickly than a Lab and his pees are smaller.

He is the size of a baby, so baths should be easy. Find out what folks use in smelly wrinkled areas to keep them clean, dry, and fungus free. If the eye area is smelly, use an eyewash that has boric acid in it to flush the big cute eyes and maybe Eye Envy or something similar.. Some of the aroma elsewhere may be from an age related hormone surge. That will settle down a bit, too, as he matures, and even more if he gets neutered when mature.

Hey, he is at least even shorter coated than a Lab, and a great color. Cute, cute, cute. Still, better you than me. The Cavaliers are more willing. You are spoiled by Labs, especially since yours are from service lines, too.

    What does your breeder suggest?

i am spoiled by labs and rex was not from guiding eyes and trained beautifully.

eli gets his face folds cleaned and dried every morning. sometimes he gets gold bond powder and sometimes he needs destin. who the hell knew about that? this was a "no homework" , quick decision after rex had to be put to sleep. the face got to me.

he weighs about 26 SOLID pounds.the bath wasn't hard, tho i got the dirtiest look when we first wet him down. after that it wasn't horrid. i guess once nick is on his feet he will take him into the shower with him. which will make my life just a bit easier.

i asked the woman who has eli's brother, and her second frenchie, if they smell and she hesitated and said "they have their own aroma". yes, they do. I'm used to labs who don't smell. oh well, he's not a lab.

as far as house training, we are home a lot, so he goes out a lot, and i wouldn't trust him uncrated when not home at all. he could eat the breakfront by the time i would come home. vangie and jake look at him like he lost his mind.

and i look at myself as if i did as well.

he is cute. and yesterday, after his bath, i gave him two fat kisses right on his lips and after the second kiss, he smiled. nick saw it too. a big stupid grin.

Based on the kiss and total cuteness, it sounds like he has your number. Good choice on his part, given his other, uh, challenging traits.

And THIS is why he wins! LOL! While I have not seen Eli, I bet he is indeed the cutest thing ever. I have explored the idea of getting one myself to show (What's one more dog to haul to the show grounds with all their stuff?! LOL!). Spent a good amount of time talking with a breeder (who also breeds/shows Labs) at one of my local Lab specialties this summer, about the breed and their unique traits, and have also talked to Nicole about hers a bit (Such darling-looking boys! I melt!). Frenchies are certainly charming. I think maybe I'll get one someday, but my next dog will probably be another Lab.

    Have fun with Eli!
