does your lab have a coat?

I thought I would purchase a coat for our Lab. I know he doesn't really need it since he doesn't hunt. (Hes just our baby.) Anyway, I got one, a size XXL, and was excited that I could find one. Well, it doesn't fit, way to small around his ribs. So I've go to return it. Does anyone have suggestions? I may just put my husband's coat on him.

Why would a Lab need a coat? (unless he's old and arthritic?)

When we lived in NC, our dogs did not wear coats, they don't in MD either. The only reason I might consider putting one on is if it's raining like the dickens because they come in soaking, but they're fine in cold weather. Our older one loves to lie outside in the snow. OK, I guess Boone and Asheville, out that direction, get a fair amount of snow in the winter and are colder than the central or eastern part of the state. Even out there, I don't think mine would need coats.

I don't have one to recommend, sorry. My boy would be hard to fit also.

Nope, they've never had and I don't think they don't need one. Of course, there may be extreme conditions, but definitely not here; this is a lab friendly place.

My lab has a vest, but only because I keep him swimming all year round.

None of our seniors have needed a coat and we're in northern IL. We're not talking being out all day in freezing weather, but even those more active dogs who are out much more than ours, I don't think need one. Archie has a nice thick double coat and the only thing I have for him is his back pack.

I don't think it is really necessary. More important is to watch their paws on broken up ice and around road salt.
