Why do dogs do the poop shuffle? When Mocha goes to "go" he will squat, walk squat, squat, shuffle squat, shuffle, shuffle and finally do his business. This spot, nope, over here, no over here, wait maybe here, OK this spot will do. Makes us laugh every time.

Yeah it is funny to watch because they seem to be concentrating on finding the exact spot.

LOL! At least with the poop shuffle when they finally pick a spot, it's all in one spot. Melody was a walking pooper. Swear she could cover an entire block. Pick up only to find she's moved to the end of the leash and done another nugget, and on and on.
I've wondered this, I wasn't sure if that was a trait that they just keep like cats do the kneading. They all seem to do it.
And then he turns around and smells it. What's up with that?
Abbey use to be our poop shuffler, I swear she would shuffle around the whole back yard before she was done.

I think there was a study on this. Dogs do have a magnetic sense of direction and normally point North-South. I have watched Gabe and he will turn to magnetic north to poop!!!
I have NO idea why.
