Vitamins?

I'm thinking of getting my two pups on some vitamins to make sure they are getting everything they should be. What kind of vitamins or any supplements (if any) do you give your growing lab?

None, if you have a good quality food they already add vitamins to it. So nothing else should be needed.

The only thing we add is a pro-biotic. Also coconut oil. Some like fish oils, but Lola just wasn't keen on it

General vitamins, not needed. Supplements if you have joint problems etc.

Kibble is balanced so that it does contain every vitamin that they would need. If they do have issues such as joint, skin, etc, then you can look into adding things specific to that.

I will say though that I am a big fan of Longevity by Springtime, Inc. Especially if you are feeding kibble, it is a good way to add some whole foods nutrition.

There are lots of things you can add but really nothing you should add for a growing puppy without other issues. You can cause harm by adding too much, like calcium, to the diet of a growing puppy.

Issues like frequent uti's and adding cranberry caps are completely different.

For a kibble fed dog; most important thing one can do is rotation. Never feed the same brand long-term; rotation of companies is the key to making sure all nutrient goals are met.

Reason being, some brands may have more or less of any given thing; and also, by feeding different proteins/different brands, just like with a human, that's the key to overall balance.

Some people feed one brand, one formula for 2-3 bags, then feed some other company for 2-3 bags; others switch with every bag.

If you have a puppy less then a year of age, keep it on one food until it reaches a year of age; after that, I'd be rotating.

But that's me.

I personally would spend more time adding in fresh foods, vegetables, meat, etc rather then spending money on synthetic vitamins.

My vet recommended 1/2 a tablet of Cosequin until Luna was 6 months and then nothing thereafter unless she had some joint pain later on. We give Luna fish oil and a probiotic since she travels a few hours every weekend.
