    More Finger Frustration....

Will it ever end??? I was referred to a Hand Specialist/Surgeon on October 27 by my family doctor and hadn't received a call about an appointment, so I decided to give them a call today. I inquired as to whether or not they received my referral and asked about the wait time. So yes they got the referral and would be calling, hopefully tomorrow, to book my appointment....in April 2015!!! I am dumbfounded...I have been trying so hard to be pro-active and getting to see this Hand Specialist so I can be referred to a hand Therapist for the right therapy...how can a Hand Therapist help me ten months after the injury and other than surgery what can a Hand Specialist/Surgeon do for me at that point?? So, so, so frustrated...just want to cry!!!

That is crazy! Can you find a different specialist that might be able to see you sooner?

Can you call your family doctor and ask if he can refer you to someone else?

That's not good, mainly if the finger is healing wrong. I hope you can get in sooner. Can you just start calling ortho's and see if they are excepting new patients? Can you do that where ur at?
    I feel for ya.

I would try looking for a hand specialist on your own and if they can take you, get a new referral from your family doctor. When you talked to the first hand dr, did you really plead your case? I've never heard of such a long wait for an injury. That's just ridiculous. Your finger can't wait! I was under the care of a hand doctor last year and I had an appointment within a week. He ordered hand therapy and the therapist scheduled my initial appointment for the next day. That's more reasonable. Your hand/finger could really cause you problems if not treated in a timely manner. I would be so upset...

Your experience is more what I was expecting. I just feel if I wait until April, my only option will be surgery to fix it, and that is what I have been trying to avoid this whole time....

So the Hand Specialists nurse calls this morning to book my appointment and I pleaded my case a little more...and she gave me an appointment for December 8 at 9:30am. I am so happy, maybe, just maybe there is an end in sight!! Who knew a broken finger would end up being such a pain in the "you know where". Thanks for all the good thoughts!!

April, that's ridiculous. If they are that booked, they should be willing to suggest another hand specialist. These type of things should not have to wait. So glad it got moved up.
