There's a micro switch inside that the trigger engages chances that has gone bad or it need adjusting. That requires disassembly of handle and that might not be something you want to do. I have a old Craftsman (1993) that this was the issue with it. If your going to work on it take the blade off just to be safe if you have to plug it in to check the switch when it is apart.
