How big is a "small" dog?

I cradle my littlest, a 65 pound dog, in my arms and call her my little baby. It occurs to me that this is probably not the case for many people but those here might understand.

How big is a "small" dog in your opinion?

Ha! Stella is 38 and feels like a 'small dog', Anthony is a compact 63 but now feels like a big dog. It's all relative I guess.

Mocha is and always will be my little bitty baby puppy boy. He's 105 pounds and still tries to sit in my lap. It is all relative, I think. I know he's a big dog but to me, he's just Mocha.

Lily is 8lbs and she's smaller than most "small" dogs we come across. In the 20lb range is what I consider small.

I'm not sure, but I don't think I've ever had a big dog. Lynn was 75 pounds and Mel is 69 pounds - my sweet little puppies

At barely 57 lbs, Lola is small for the breed for sure. Big enough to hog up the couch and heavy enough to pick up when she decides she doesn't want to get out of the car. ;-)

At 70lbs, Gabby's a snuggly lap dog. She's also a 'lay on your legs and hog the bed sideways' dog. Compared to several other yellows in our neighborhood, she's small...and takes full advantage of it. We wouldn't have it any other way!

My Barney is about 82 pounds, he is quite slim but he's a tall lab. Shelby is 70 pounds and seems so little comparing to him

    Hmmm......

I always think of a sliding scale for sizes. There's tiny small (Yorkie), medium small (Jack Russel), large small (usually mutt)....something under 20 lbs. or thereabouts.

I think of a Corgi as a large dog with short legs because they don't have what I consider to be essential for "small dog" designation..."small dog" personality.

I consider my 35 lb. Dan to be a medium dog....as well as his 42 lb. mama. But I also considered my 65 and 75 lb. Labs to be mediums.

I've had only three large dogs...in my mind....my Akitas and my first Lab Brutus (all 90 lbs.).
