    Night out

    Last night we, (my photo assistant Opie & I), went out on the desert to shoot some stars. I hope you like them. One is my truck up in the box canyon, and the other is looking up out of the box canyon into the sky with startrails.

    Very nice and I bet you really enjoyed yourselves. What is the time on the bottom one? My OH has done some time lapse too, should get him going on photography again.

    I don't know how much your DH's know about this stuff, but there are two ways to trail;

    stacking and lo-o-o-n-n-g exposures. This (bottom) happens to be stacking. The timer is set at 1/2 hr, the exposure lenth is on my camera, (Canon 6d) and the button (wire remote) was pushed manually because some dummy for got the batteries for it and couldn't set it. (I'll blame Opie, he was the assistant) The camera was facing north (somewhat), therefore the circular patern of trailings (east makes angled lines top to rt, opposite if west)

    The stacking was done with this program: Software - StarStaX

    Hope I answered your questions ok, I'm far from an expert, in fact I'm just learning and have a new camera that I'm learning which buttons do what. I have taken a workshop on this and the thing stressed the most was, do not skimp on the tripod, make sure you have a very very solid sturdy one.

    Cool. I was thinking the time lapse was exposed facing a little east of Polaris, the North Star.

    And you would be absolutely correct!! If I were aimed directly at Polaris, it would be a circle
