    Christmas "Village" for POPTOP

The same friend who took the wonderful sunrise pics of Mel and me, took some photographs of the Christmas Village in our church. It's pretty old, and it's wonderful. Unfortunately, it's protected by glass, so it's really difficult to photograph, still think he did a great job, and at least you can see the reflections of the beautiful stained-glass windows, and see the vaults which can give you a better idea how big it is - LARGE!!!

    Enjoy, Mike&Mel

I believe it was hand-carved by one of the local priests some time ago, definitely before I was born , and if my memory serves me right, it took him about fifty years to finish the job. Used to love it as a child, and would spend a long time just standing there, watching it, exploring all the mysterious niches, and loving all the great stattuets of working people, merchants, shepherds and flying angels. It's a real piece of art; just couldn't wait for January 6 to see the three Wise Men to arrive on the scene. Glad you like it.

Very beautiful. I love imagining what the people are doing and how they are living.

It's amazing, there are two themes: a traditional one situated in Jerusalem, and the other exploiting the local scenery and lifestyle, so every other year it's different and I was always waiting for the theme to change to see more.

That's so amazing. Hand made - unbelievable. It's so detailed. What a beautiful gift the priest made for his church. Keep scrolling back and looking and seeing more things. Going to be studying these for a long time.

Hum, now I'm thinking of a painted backdrop. DH is going to kill me, LOL.

Thank you so much for sharing.
