    Foot in mouth :(

So our vet, Dr. Morris has 2 rescue greyhounds. She has had them for many years. When I picked up Duchess we were chatting and I asked her how her dogs were doing. She teared up immediately. She had to put her down the night before. Bone cancer. I felt like a true heel. I mean I had no way of knowing but I felt so rotten. She apologized to me for tearing up. She's such a good vet and friend to our critters.

Yes, but I bet she appreciated you asking about them. You were a good person to think of them and ask and I bet your Vet will remember your thoughtfullness and doesn't think you are a heel at all. You could send her a little sympathy card, you might even find a doggy one. My condolences to your Vet.

Her heart was still so tender, but I'm sure she will remember your thoughtfulness to ask.

The thing is you thought to ask. It wasnt like you asked if she was pregnant and she wasnt. Your intentions were good.

I did the same thing to our neighbor. You had no way of knowing and she knows that. She'll appreciate your asking

I'm sure your vet appreciated your asking. The fact that she could tear up in front of you shows you two share a special bond.

Please don't feel bad about this, as you had no way of knowing about her loss. I'm sure your vet was happy to have the opportunity to talk about it. Loosing a pet is a very traumatic experience, and talking with someone who understands can be very comforting.
