I melt a tablespoon or a little more and give it to my dogs with their food. I also have been using it in a kong toy for them and freezing it.
For those that use coconut oil how much do you give your dogs and how often do you give it? I've been giving 1 tbls in the morning to both Gauge and Benelli right now I'm giving it everyday.

My research says one tbsp for every 30 lbs, per day. I don't think my guys need that much so they get about a table spoon twice a week. Coconut oil is awesome but remember it is added calories and fat, so I don't add it unless they need it.

ETA: It doesn't have that many calories.
It has many benefits though and I add it to my dog's diet. 2 teaspoons every other day.

I meant what I said. Here are the guidelines.
Wholistic Coconut Oilâ„¢ - Skin Coat - Canine
Also one tbsp has about 117 cals. That can add quickly.

117 calories are nothing (unless you are want your dog to lose weight) compared to the benefits.

I tablespoon in the morning is fine. You can give as much as 2 tablespoons but i dont see the purpose. I rub it into Zoeys coat frequently and personally i find that helps more with the coat and skin than giving it orally.
1 teaspoon once a day

Really Zoeysmommy? Addie is such a snuggle bug it would be all over me.....
We give it every other day or so. About 1 tblsp in the morning. I have started alternating it with pumpkin for fiber because.....well you know.......

Zoey is all over me and all the furniture including the bed and i never noticed any of the oil. I do rub it in real good and give her a pretty intense massage along with it to make sure its on her skin and then take a dry towel and go over the top of her coat so she isnt greasy. Its so dry here in the southwest, she needs good oils on her skin all year round.
Sweet almond oil absorbs better if you are looking for something to use. You dont have to rub it in as long, its not as thick as coconut oil. I do prefer the almond to the coconut oil
