    It's Really Happening

GS has been to the Army recruiter, done tons of paperwork and had his physical. I can't believe this is really happening. He will finish high school and then go in when they call him up.

Time has passed way too fast. I remember towing him behind me in a wagon at flea markets; he loved them. He was allowed to pick out one item to take home. I remember the hours we spent in the pool and later hours tossing a football or baseball. I remember the many times he spent the day in DH's wood shop, bringing in his special project. At first it was just a board with nails in it as he conquered the hammer. Later it was work produced on the scroll saw. He spent many hours with DH on projects on the house and even going to work with him. Still giggle thinking about the first time he cracked an egg to make muffins. He was always up for something new.

He surprised me again wanting to go to the IKC dog show. This may be the last time we do that together.

I will miss all those times yet am so proud of the man he has become. His adult life is now spread before him, a new chapter opening. Yet, I kinda want that little boy back again.

I recommend anyone who joins the military to spend some time researching the job they sign up for if its an option. over my career I saw far too many who hated the job they signed up to do. not that the job was bad, just that they thought the job was something else. congrats on getting in, you wouldnt believe how many in our country dont even meet the most basic of prerequisites. The military is a great opportunity available to the next generation.

You (and your family) must be so proud and honored.
Good kids don't become good adults on their own, it speaks volumes about his rearing and the foundation you have provided him.
Wishing you, and your GS, the strength and support to see this through.
And when the time comes, should he or his fellow members need cards or care packages be sure to share an address.

It's wonderful that you all gave him so many opportunities to create memories with you both, something I know he'll cherish as much as you do. Congratulations on such a fine young man and every second you added to his rich upbringing.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

My time in the military was invaluable. If I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing. Best of luck to him!
