I like some of his methods, mostly the NILIF stuff and upping exercise to help with problems. Dogs were bred to work and when they are not working, they place that energy into other things like aggression, destruction, or just plain being annoying. Also, like that he doesn't offer a simple solution like a type of collar or a pill to create a well-behaved dog -- it takes effort on the part of the owner. I am not a fan of the dominance stuff. I think that was created for public consumption by the Monks of New Skeet and certainly lives on in Cesar. Unfortunately the general public watches his shows and learns about alpha rolls, being dominant versus being a leader, and sticking your hand in a dog's food bowl in order to break him of being food aggressive. Can't really think of a better way to get bitten...
I like
Patricia McDonnell's Culture Clash (among others) for understanding dogs with behavior issues. I like Karen Pryor and Ian Dunbar as well. I am a
big fan of Janice Dunn, Bridget Carlson, and Denise Fenzi for competition training.
