What do you think about Cesar?

What do you think about Cesar Millan?

Miracle? Amazing? Love his TV shows? Dislike him but watch anyways? Why is he famous? What do you really think about him...

What trainers do you prefer? Who do you follow/read?

I was going to go watch one of his live shows at a local casino until I saw the 99$ ticket price. I have no idea if he is good or bad, but wouldnt say no to his help. I think of him as the dog trainer to the celebs. He gets paid alot. think I read he is worth 25million and makes around 200k a month. not a bad gig doing something you love.

I don't agree with his style as far as the whole showing dominance flipping them over til they summit. I do watch his show sometimes. I do agree with some of his stuff. I like Victoria Stillwell I base a lot of my training off her and how my trainer trains. My shelties do better with positive training I start with food reward then ween it out I mix up their rewards so they never know what I will have. Sometimes its a yummy treat sometimes a toy sometimes just verbal praise. Gauge is a stronger personality I have to keep him in check so I also used positive training but also corrections. I live with 5 male dogs and never had an issue so I must be doing something right!!

Don't like him at all. I think he's terrible at actually reading a dog's body language, uses really outdated methods based on outdated theories about dog behaviour, and that his show and popularity have done a lot more harm than good for dog training.

He's the reason people are alpha rolling puppies because they think they're "dominant" When he says a dog is calm and submissive, it's usually just shut down. Seems like everyone you talk to these days thinks they have a dominant dog. I blame him for that.

His methods may have a place with some problem dogs or older dogs that are truly dominant, but the majority of the people on his show just need some common sense and some NILIF methods.

I like Cesar Milan, always have. He is amazing with aggressive dogs and he has done a lot for the canine community. His techniques should never be used by the average dog owner and I think that's the problem. People watch his shows which only show a very small amount of what he does for these dogs. No one should ever use his techniques on the average dog. Some of us are smart enough to know this, some people arent

Ive heard his live shows are worth going too.

I watch Victoria Stillwell on occasion as well but she annoys me the crap out of me. I do believe in positive reinforcement a majority of the time but she is just out there in my opinion.

I prefer a mix of training techniques and I am not afraid to correct my dogs if needed, Victoria wouldn't like that

I like some of his methods, mostly the NILIF stuff and upping exercise to help with problems. Dogs were bred to work and when they are not working, they place that energy into other things like aggression, destruction, or just plain being annoying. Also, like that he doesn't offer a simple solution like a type of collar or a pill to create a well-behaved dog -- it takes effort on the part of the owner. I am not a fan of the dominance stuff. I think that was created for public consumption by the Monks of New Skeet and certainly lives on in Cesar. Unfortunately the general public watches his shows and learns about alpha rolls, being dominant versus being a leader, and sticking your hand in a dog's food bowl in order to break him of being food aggressive. Can't really think of a better way to get bitten...

I like Patricia McDonnell's Culture Clash (among others) for understanding dogs with behavior issues. I like Karen Pryor and Ian Dunbar as well. I am a big fan of Janice Dunn, Bridget Carlson, and Denise Fenzi for competition training.

I believe a lot of his methods are not for the average Joe. Every episode consists of the typical over burdened pet owner that lacks experience, knowledge, training ability, the dogs receive zero to very minimal exercise, don't understand anything about dog ownership etc. etc. etc. I do have to say, I prefer watching him with experienced dogs that have psychological problems - like the bomb dog from Afghanistan.

I don't really know what to think. I think a lot of his "amazing-ness" is bologna.
