    They're Blooming!

Always start amaryllis as soon as the holiday decorations are put away. I know that spring can't be that far away.

Two came up very quickly. The red and white just bloomed today. Another still coming up.

Thank heavens. I was afraid you were going to say Daffodils, or snowdrops. I'm not ready for Spring. They are lovely, thanks for sharing. Haven't had any here for years and won't now, I can just see kittens having a high old time with them.

    Very Nice!
That is a definate mood booster as I look out the window and see white, white & more white (and it ain't a white sandy beach). UGH!
I'm jealous, I've never had much success with indoor plants or growing.

Amaryllis are really easy. I have to buy them before the holidays when they are available in stores - HD, Walmart, etc. I refuse to pay more than $6-7 apiece. They are stored in the basement on the cold floor to keep them dormant. The kits come complete with pot, soil and bulb. Some pots have holes in the bottom so a saucer may be necessary. The soil comes as a large compressed pellet, soak in water, put a little in the bottom, place the bulb and pack soil around the bulb. Bulb sits low in the pot. All the kits come with directions for watering. Place mine in the bay window and turn a quarter turn daily; they will bend toward the sun. The waiting is the hardest part, they are slow at first, but so worth it.
