I just remembered an incidence that happened when I was 15/16 yrs old. I worked part time as a dishwasher in a local restaurant and would gather ribs from the plates and bring them home to my dog. I had a little beagle mix that I loved at the time. So I stuck them in the frigerator and the next day went to get one out for my dog and . . . where's the ribs? GONE!! I went and banged on my older brothers bedroom door and, of coarse, he ATE them. "Oh, were those yours? Should have marked them, pretty good though!" He sarcastically says. Yeah?, ha ha , maybe I should have, garbage boy!

I have a friend who was staying at her parents' home with her husband over a holiday. Her husband was unfamiliar with the family's habit of putting leftover canned dog food into a little storage container and putting it in the refrigerator. You can imagine the rest. When the Mom went to feed the dog in the morning, no dog food. My friend's husband had enjoyed it on crackers when he woke up with the hungries during the night.
My dad tells stories of his grandfather mixing up dinner for the kids & dogs - they all got the same stuff. The good old days

I hope your brother did not eat the bones, they'd been cooked, might have splintered.
Funny, My BIL told me a similar tale last week when I was down for supper. I don't remember how the topic came up but he said when he and my Sis and I think his two brothers and their wives were in Scotland at a B&B once one brother did not finish his breakfast orange juice. And they watched the hostess pour it back into the big pitcher everyone's orange juice came from. None of them drank orange juice for the remainder of the stay but, funny, he didn't mention a concern about other foods. I think I might not have eaten anything there again.
Memories can really bring giggles. This one sure did to me.
