Warning about labs in bed: Black eye!

Thor is allowed in bed. I've talked about this before, it's a decision we made (best worst decision of our life) early on, and we're fine with it. We have a king sized bed, and since Thor is a cuddler I usually enjoy having him there - especially in the winter since our insulation isn't great!

One of Thor's nicknames is "Little Spoon" for a reason. He'll snuggle up in a ball against my chest and I'll fall asleep with my arm around him.

When the alarm goes off in the morning it's his breakfast signal, so he'll leap up and jump off the bed to head to the kitchen. He's usually ahead of the alarm so by the time my alarm goes off he's already off the bed.

Well, the other day he didn't wake up before the alarm. As it went off, I reached over my snuggly dog to switch off the alarm. As I bent over him, he jumped up as usual, whacking his massive labby head into my eye socket.

I've spent all week with a nice shiner. Worst part is that I've been traveling for work, interacting with customers. It's kind of awkward trying to explain a black eye caused by sleeping with an 80 lb dog! I figured people here would understand...

Hmmm, glad I tell Sam to sleep at the foot of the bed. Apparently it's much safer. Ava sleeps in her kennel. I let Sam sleep in the bed before getting Ava. Now she wants to be there too and there just isn't room, I get pinned. I don't have the heart to throw Sam out after allowing him so I just kept Ava in the routine of sleeping in her kennel which is the only time she is in it now.

Maybe your black eye can be an ice breaker to start conversations.

I often get scratched in the mouth by Grizz's scratchy paws when he stretched and loves on me after the alarm goes off.

Could be worse - I know 2 separate people who have had their noses broken by an accidental head bang from a Lab!
